Roland MT-32 Supported Game Suggestions
Main Post:
I just ordered a PCMIDI MPU-401 card from pcmidi.eu to complete my my ultimate DOS/Windows 3.11 setup. While I wait for it to arrive from Greece, I'm curious what the people of the internet recommend as the first game I should play to fully experience the MT-32’s capabilities?
Top Comment: Space Quest III had a rocking soundtrack. Monkey Island 2 was great. Freddy Pharkas Frontier Pharmacist has good music to go with its Al Lowe humor.
Jez Corden - "I've been told that Microsoft is actively working with Capcom to fix MT Framework issues on Xbox"

During the latest episode of the Xbox Two podcast (around the 2:09:40 timestamp), Jez says Microsoft lost their grip on the FGC starting wirh Street Fighter 5 and "...the ongoing issue with MT Framework and Capcom games, which are skipping [Xbox] for technology reasons, really from what I've been told. But I've also been told that Microsoft is actively working on it with Capcom. I think Microsoft has identified that having Capcom's back catalog not present on Xbox for a technology reason is not a great look."
Top Comment: Makes sense honestly. When it was just a few games here and there skipping Xbox because of the engine compatibility, it made sense for Capcom to skip Xbox and for Xbox to just go "sucks, but also not worth it to invest in it" but Marvel Vs. Capcom being a huge skip and Capcom likely having more MT Framework remasters in the works makes me feel like MS is finally going "oh shit" and offering to help fund porting the engine and those games. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a ton of the games that previously skipped Xbox launching into Game Pass soon too.

New Co-op mission Gun Game Defender: Mt. Zaya gone?
Main Post:
Sorry if this is something thats already been talked about. I'm not really active here.
My friend wanted to try out the new Gun Game version of the Co-Op mission Defender: Mt. Zaya. We got into a game of it, but we had to restart because he was lagging a lot (on ps5 btw - idk if this updates broken on ps5 or not)
Anyway, when he got back on, it wasn't there. I tried leaving our party, and restarting to see if it was gonna show up again, but it isn't. So, did they remove it? Is this a bug? Thanks.
Top Comment:
It got removed when they updated the playlist earlier today. No idea why, I didn't see any bugs or anything while playing.
Why no Jazz games available in MT
Main Post:
We can't do league pass, Fubo no longer an option. Does anyone have any idea besides pirated streams. VPNs don't seem to work on league pass according to others.
Top Comment:
If your lucky KJZZ streams their tv broadcast online, but since it’s election season Jazz games are not always prioritized.
Rumor: Microsoft is working on the MT Framework issue on Xbox with Capcom
Main Post:
Timestamp: 2:09:35
Context: a while back, Capcom has announced a slew of games to come on other platforms expect Xbox due to Capcom no longer working on the MT Framework for Xbox One. Those titles: Monster Hunter Stories, Marvel vs Capcom Collection, The Great Ace Attorney. Of course ppl online (and primarily this subreddit) and on Xbox platform got rightfully upset and angry. Of course more information will come but who knows.
Top Comment: Let's not forget the Mega Man Battle Network Collection. I'll gladly buy it again if they bring it to Xbox with the other titles in this situation.
Question about sound cards and games
Main Post:
This week I've been reading a lot about sound cards like the Roland MT-32 and the Soundblaster Pro. I've discovered (had no idea) that depending on the sound card you had, the game audio sounded completely different, and it could even change instrument banks for a new experience.
My question is: How was the definitive form of the songs decided? For example, if you search for DOOM E1M1 on YouTube, you'll hear the classic song we all love, but which version is it? And the same goes for Duke Nukem or particularly Blood. I've been listening to the Blood soundtrack with Roland MT32 and it has impressed me. Do they use the Soundblaster Pro as a standard?
Also, how did the cdmusic works in blood? Do you need an specific sound card?
Thank you.
PD: Im a complete ignorant about this topic, sorry if i said something stupid.
Top Comment: There was no definitive version, they are all valid versions. You just listened to whatever worked on your hardware. That one you linked is definitely a MIDI version but I don't know if it's GM or Roland. If you're listening to a Roland version, it doesn't matter what soundcard you have, it's the Roland doing the synthesis. The sound card just passes on the MIDI signal to the synth. Similar with General Midi if you're using the daughterboard header. It's the daughterboard that's doing the synthesis. But there were sound cards that had their own GM support too, they were usually not as good as a daughterboard. CD music was usually handled by an analog cable coming out of the CDROM and going into the soundcard. Again, the soundcard won't matter as it's just passing that audio signal along to the output. Sound card matters mostly for FM synthesis (adlib). Genuine OPLs were very nice, and clones varied a lot. For digital audio, the quality of the amplifier and presence of a filter mattered a little bit. Pretty much everything was some flavor of soundblaster compatible, until you start getting into GUS and other real niche hardware.
